It’s a passage through heartbreak, a battle against unseen struggles, and ultimately healing. Some stories need to be told. When love isn’t enough, a young girl records her darkest moments through her experiences written in her journals about family conflict, sacrifice, and loss.
Frankie Adams is a gifted but burdened fourteen-year-old girl with a forbidden darkness that is on its way to destroying her life. Can she emerge into the light again as the once straight A student begins to unravel and life becomes more than she can handle. Kate Adams is a devoted and loving mother feeling isolated with the impending responsibilities of understanding her daughter’s depression. Upon finding Frankie’s hidden journals the occurrences that are unveiled after her discovery are devastating.
Her Scars takes place in the majestic Eastern Sierra Mountains in a California ghost town where Frankie reveals her haunting story. A story about a string of horrifying events that lead to her self-destruction, on that dark cold night in November. The night nobody will ever forget and a regretful decision she will have to live with forever.
Reading to me is almost like time-traveling, into a new world. As a writer, it is my goal to provide the same experiences to my readers, through my life encounters. Her Scars was a very difficult book for me to write, but at the same time it was also therapeutic. My hope is to put some light on the most difficult conversations about suicide and the stigma evolving around mental health.
Her Scars is raw with an insight into the world of darkness through a teenager’s mind, struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, loss of hope, and despair.
